Playhouse Plans – Build A Kids Playhouse In A Weekend

April 26th, 2011 Jim No comments

Hello fellow playhouse builders.

I’ve just found a brand new source of playhouse plans and I thought I’d share it with you.

If you’ve read my previous articles, you’ll know that I bought my wooden playhouse plans from a site that provids an absolute treasure trove of woodworking plans. It has plans for any type of woodworking project you can imagine, well over 14,000 in total, and if you want access to a huge variety of plans I still recommend it wholeheartedly.

However, if you know  you are only ever going to build a kids wooden playhouse then I have found a site for you that sells ONLY kids playhouse plans, and because they specialise in playhouse plans only, the price is considerably cheaper.

Read the review below on my new discovery or, if you’re in a rush to get going, or you’re just an impatient person, then click on the link below:

Build A Playhouse In A Weekend Using These Simple Playhouse Plans

This new site I’ve found is by a gentleman called John White, who is an expert woodworker and an award winning architect.

Now, don’t let those credentials put you off, as John has used his skills and designed these playhouse plans specifically with the average DIY’er in mind. There is absolutely no need to be a skilled craftsmen, nor will you require any special tools either.

Which Playhouse Plans Are You Going To Use?

There are over 300 pages of detailed step-by-step instructions covering a variety of playhouse styles including how to build a fort playhouse, a treehouse, a log cabin style playhouse, and the beautiful dollhouse playhouses.

All of the playhouse plans are instantly downloadable, which means you can get to work immediately on building your playhouse without having to wait a couple of days for your plans to arrive by mail.

The plans are beautifully illustrated in full colour, and have detailed cross sectional diagrams, which make understanding the drawings child’s play. The measurements are given in both metric and imperial, and the plans come complete with a shopping list of materials and tools needed so you can cross them off, one by one, and be sure you have everything in place before you start building your wooden playhouse.

What I particularly like about John’s plans is that he covers every detail step-by-step, including the initial positioning of the playhouse, construction methods, ventilation, lighting, insulation and, most importantly, playhouse safety.

If you feel that you’re experienced enough with playhouse plans then you can easily customize them but personally, I feel that the plans are just fantastic as they are.

I did mention that the price was considerably cheaper than where I bought my playhouse plans, and it is. For all I have detailed above John is selling these beautifully detailed plans for only $29.95 (which is about £19 for my UK friends). Coupled with John’s generous 60 day, love it or shove it, guarantee which gives you ample time to build your playhouse, I think this is an absolute bargain.

Take care.

March 22nd, 2011 Jim No comments

Hi Guys, it’s Jim here again. I just realised after reading through my other posts, that I never explained where I finally managed to find a really good set of kids wooden playhouse plans.

I’ve talked at length about building a wooden playhouse as a great woodworking project, and how you can really get the kids involved in it. I’ve also talked about some safety aspects of the process and also the finishing off of the playhouse to ensure it’s safe for the children to play on.

I’ve also talked about my belief that building a kids wooden playhouse is much more than a wood construction project. It’s about building dreams and memories that will live on with your children and grandchildren for years.

What's possible with a good set of kids wooden playhouse plans.

Buy this at Amazon for $1,354 or buy yourself a set of kids wooden playhouse plans and build it yourself for a lot less.

But what I haven’t talked about is how I managed to finally find some great wooden playhouse plans and at the same time uncover a literal treasure trove of woodworking plans that will keep me happy, in my workshop, and out from under my wife’s feet for the rest of my days.

The biggest frustration I had when I decided to build a wooden playhouse was that I could not find a decent set of plans for love nor money. I tried the library, searching through old and new woodworking books. I also tried woodworking magazines but none of them had the clarity and detail that I knew I would need if I was going to build a wooden playhouse to be proud of and one which would last for years to come.

I’d like to say I was really clever and did some smart searches on the internet to find just what I wanted, but the reality is I’m a fat fingered old duffer who is more at home with a saw or a plane in his hand than a keyboard or mouse.

No, the reality is I saw an advertisement for this site when I was reading an email. The ad said that this site had over 14,000 different woodworking plans, including kids wooden playhouse plans. I have to admit that my first thought was that if it had that many plans then most of them were going to be rubbish. I had little to lose though so I clicked on the link which took me to this site.

I’m so glad I resisted my initial thoughts and put my doubts aside long enough to take a look. The feeling I got when I first saw the site took me right back to my childhood and was like standing in a well stocked sweet shop for the very first time.

As well as playhouse plans, there were plans for pergolas, kids’ bunk beds and toys, sheds, you name it and it was there.

I then started worrying that I wasn’t going to be skilled enough to use these but there were plans to suit all skill levels.

Okay, this is too good to be true I thought, it’s going to cost me a fortune. Now, I won’t lie, it’s not cheap to get access to all these great plans, but it wasn’t expensive either. In a weird way I’m quite glad because I think I would have been suspicious had it been too cheap.

What finally sealed it for me was that there was a 60 day money back guarantee. You might have guessed, I’m a bit of a glass half empty kind of guy, but I’ve found it’s held me in good stead over the years.

Well, I’ve waffled for far too long again. If you’re serious about building a wooden playhouse or indeed undertaking any woodworking project then do yourself a favour and click on the link below that will take you to this site. You won’t be disappointed.

Building Dreams Through Simple Playhouse Plans

March 8th, 2011 Jim No comments

Build an amazing kids wooden playhouse using simple playhouse plans and you really can make dreams come true.

But that isn’t just a kids wooden playhouse out there in the garden!

Isn’t it?

No.

That’s the manor house where preparations are in place to welcome the Queen of England for tea.

It’s the knight’s castle from where he surveys his land and defeats any foe that dares to attack.

It’s a pirate ship, laden heavy with gold, after another successful treasure hunting expedition.

It’s a church, where she is getting married to her one true love.

A playhouse isn’t just a wooden house in the garden. To a child, it is all of the above… and more.

Dreams can be made from kids wooden playhouse plans

To have a beautifully built wooden playhouse is truly a dream come true for any child. So it makes sense to give them the best that you can

You can, if you so choose, go and buy a plastic, soulless construction, which will initially look okay, but over time will deteriorate and look shabby. And, for any decent size, it will cost you a fortune.

Or, you could decide to build a wooden playhouse using a good set of kids wooden playhouse plans as a simple woodworking project, get the children involved from day one, and save yourself a bucket load of cash at the same time.

I suggest you choose the DIY route.

Don’t worry if you feel you don’t have the right skills or the necessary tools, because if you get a decent set of kids wooden playhouse plans from which to build your masterpiece, you will be taken step by step through the whole construction, simply and easily.

A decent set of plans will clearly lay out what materials are required, neatly laid out so you can print it off and take it round the lumber yards and compare prices.

They will also show you step by step instructions in clear pictures and easy to understand layman’s language.

Kids Wooden Playhouse Safety Tips

March 7th, 2011 Jim No comments

Building a wooden playhouse for the kids is great fun, almost as much fun as playing in it. However, as with all things concerned with children, there has to be some safety precautions taken to prevent unnecessary accidents and to enable the children to gain the maximum amount of pleasure from their newly built toy.

General kids wooden playhouse safety tips.

Prevention is much better than cure.

Children will test the limits of their playhouse and, for example, if it looks possible to jump from one area to another, they will try. If they can get on the roof they will, along with all their other friends, and all at the same time.

I always remember back to when I was a young lad. You know, when dinosaurs were still roaming the earth. Me and a couple of pals somehow managed to get into a “secure area” and we took it in turns climbing on to the roof of this shed then jumping off.

It doesn’t sound too bad until you realise we jumped off the roof over the perimeter fence which had spikes sticking up from it to prevent people getting in.

It makes me shiver when I think about it now, and what could have happened.

Anyway, the point is, kids will test the capabilities of their wooden playhouse so a few safety measures need to be put in place.

A couple of obvious things to check for is that there are no sharp edges to the playhouse, ensure all the corners have been sanded smooth and that no screws are sticking out.

Once those areas have been taken care of, it’s time to think of the surrounding areas to the playhouse. What can be placed around the playhouse if someone actually does take a fall? Mulch, bark and that bouncy tarmac like substance are good materials.

These are a few ideas for you to think about in terms of your kids playhouse safety. If you incorporate safety into the playhouse building plans then that should go a long way in ensuring a safe playhouse environment.

A Kids Wooden Playhouse As A Woodworking Project

March 6th, 2011 Jim No comments

Have you ever considered building a wooden playhouse as part of a kids woodworking project?

Sound too ambitious?

If you were to just leave your child to get on and build the playhouse all by himself then yes, I would agree.

However, if the wooden playhouse was built as a family project using a good set of wooden playhouse plans, and the child or children were involved in the less strenuous parts of the build then a kids playhouse makes a great woodworking project.

This is something they, and you, are really going to enjoy and remember for years to come. It’s a great fun activity that will boost their confidence and give them a great opportunity to experience and develop new skills and reinforce those already learnt.

What aspects of the woodworking project could the kids get involved in?

The ideal tasks for children in this project need to be those where they have some direct input into it and where they can achieve something quite quickly. We all know how quickly children get bored, so anything that gives us a quick win is a great place to start.

In no particular order here are some aspects of the project that they can be involved in:

  • Choosing the design for the playhouse – if you can show them a number of playhouse plans then they get a say in what is going to be built. They have essentially bought into the woodworking project and are more likely to want to see it through to its conclusion.
  • Shopping for the materials – unless it’s toys, kids normally hate being dragged round shops. But this is different. This could be the first time he gets to go to the hardware store with Dad, it’s a big moment in a young lad’s life.
  • Painting – what child doesn’t like painting? It doesn’t matter so much if the paint runs a bit on the first coat, you can always rectify the situation later on and perhaps finish it off when they’ve gone to bed. Then you can say to them “Look how it’s turned out, now the paint has dried.”

Chunk up the kids woodworking project.

In any project, it’s easier if you chunk sections of the project together and in effect create many mini-projects that come together to make one whole one. This is doubly important when you’re working on a kids woodworking project as the potential for boredom, if the work goes on too long, is extremely high.

Using the areas we highlighted above, plan your wooden playhouse project in sections. Get your children involved in each step of the whole project and let them know how it contributes to the overall finish of the playhouse.

Good luck, and let me know how you get on.
